Immerse yourself in a Fairy world!🧚‍♂️🧚🧚‍♀️

The idea of fairies in a garden is a whimsical and popular concept, often associated with creating miniature fairy gardens. While fairies are mythical creatures, the practice of building fairy gardens is a fun way to engage with nature, spark creativity, and add a touch of magic to outdoor spaces.

Here’s a more detailed look:

Fairy Gardens:

  • Concept:Fairy gardens are miniature gardens designed to evoke a sense of enchantment and create a space where fairies might live.
  • Materials:They can be created in pots, containers, or directly in the ground, using a variety of plants, small structures like houses and furniture, and natural elements like stones, moss, and twigs.
  • Location:Fairy gardens are often placed in areas that feel natural and secluded, such as under trees, near flowerbeds, or in quiet corners of the yard.
  • Inspiration:Many people find inspiration from books, movies, and folklore about fairies, as well as from nature itself.

Fairies in Folklore:

  • Mythical Creatures:Fairies are often depicted as small, magical beings associated with nature, often with wings and a connection to flowers and plants.
  • Guardians of Nature:In some traditions, fairies are seen as guardians of nature, protectors of plants and animals, and keepers of the balance in the natural world.
  • Helpers and Fixers:Fairies are sometimes portrayed as helpers in the garden, assisting with tasks like tending to flowers or fixing broken branches.

Creating Your Own Fairy Garden:

  1. 1. Choose a Location:Pick a spot in your yard that is relatively sheltered and has good drainage.
  2. 2. Select Plants:Choose a variety of small plants, like succulents, mosses, creeping thyme, and miniature flowers, that will thrive in your chosen location.
  3. 3. Gather Materials:Collect rocks, twigs, small pieces of wood, and other natural elements to create pathways, houses, and other features.
  4. 4. Add Accessories:Incorporate miniature furniture, fairy doors, and other decorative elements to bring your fairy garden to life.
  5. 5. Invite the Fairies:Some people believe that leaving small gifts like shiny stones or sweet treats can encourage fairies to visit.

Beyond the Garden:

  • Imaginative Play:Fairy gardens can be a great way to encourage imaginative play and storytelling, especially for children.
  • Connection to Nature:Building and tending a fairy garden can help foster a deeper appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
  • Artistic Expression:Creating a fairy garden is a creative outlet that allows you to express your own unique style and imagination.

Shopping til you drop and play time with adoptable furries!

Shop till you drop” is an idiomatic expression that describes a prolonged and often exhausting shopping spree. It signifies a desire to shop for an extended period, until one becomes physically tired or overwhelmed. The phrase is often associated with consumerism and the enjoyment of shopping for pleasure rather than necessity.

Here’s a breakdown of the phrase:

  • Shop: This refers to the act of visiting stores to purchase items.
  • Till: This is a contraction of “until”.
  • Drop: This metaphorically represents physical exhaustion, implying the shopper is so tired they could collapse or “drop”.

The phrase is commonly used to express the idea of indulging in a shopping experience with no restraint until one is physically unable to continue. It can also be used to describe a particularly large amount of shopping.

The origin of the phrase is believed to be from the United States around the mid-20th century, a time when consumer culture and the concept of shopping for pleasure became more prevalent. The phrase gained popularity with the rise of malls and department stores as popular destinations for shopping.

Retail therapy!🛍️

Come thrift with me!

Thrifting is the act of shopping for used items, typically at thrift stores, flea markets, or garage sales, where items are offered at discounted prices. It’s a way to find unique, affordable, and sometimes vintage clothing, furniture, and other goods, while also promoting sustainability by giving pre-owned items a new life

I did buy this!! ❤️

Here’s a more detailed look at thrifting:

What it involves:

  • Secondhand shopping:Thrifting focuses on buying items that have been previously owned and used by someone else.
  • Finding unique items:Thrifting offers the chance to discover one-of-a-kind pieces that may not be found in traditional retail stores.
  • Cost savings:Thrifting is often a budget-friendly way to shop, allowing you to find items at a fraction of their original price.
  • Sustainable practice:By choosing thrifting, you contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle by reducing waste and supporting the reuse of existing items.

Why people thrift:

  • Affordability:Thrifting is a great way to save money on clothing, home decor, and other items.
  • Sustainability:Thrifting reduces waste and the demand for new products, aligning with environmentally conscious practices.
  • Unique style:Thrifters often seek out unique and vintage pieces to express their personal style.
  • Treasure hunting:The thrill of finding a hidden gem at a thrift store is a major draw for many shoppers.
  • Community engagement:Thrifting can be a social activity, enjoyed with friends or as a way to connect with local communities.
  • Support for charities:Many thrift stores are run by charitable organizations, so thrifting can be a way to support their missions.

Where to thrift:

  • Thrift stores: Traditional stores like Goodwillor Salvation Army
  • Flea markets: Outdoor markets with a variety of vendors selling used items.
  • Garage sales: Local events where individuals sell items from their homes.
  • Consignment shops: Stores that sell used items on behalf of individuals, often offering higher quality items.
  • Online marketplaces: Websites and apps where people buy and sell used items.

I thrift because I need to! I am not a wealthy person in the means of coin, moolah, or dollars!

You can find some unique and awesome treasures at these thrifty shops! I know that I do!!

Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

I try to practice finding joy each day.

Life is a struggle for me the last 7 years or so.

I was in a car accident that someone else caused by being careless. I have an injury to my neck that creates pain every single day of my life.

I have frequent migraines from it as well which makes finding joy harder to do.

So I try! I rrad to escape reality, I write to create a story to share.

I also enjoy my 3 cats and remind myself that I have a great life with my family which does bring me that happiness that I constantly search for but is already in my life each day!😊

Old Presque Isle Lighthouse!

Old Presque Isle Lighthouse (Michigan) is reportedly haunted by two spirits. A keeper kept his wife locked in the tower until she went insane. On windy nights her screams can be heard above the howling wind. The other spirit is that of a caretaker. The light was disconnected many years ago, but continues to shine on occasion. The U.S. Coast Guard has investigated and found the wires had indeed been cut and that the lighting apparatus has been removed. Yet the light is still seen every night. The light is listed as “an unknown light” by the Coast Guard. Visitors have reported feeling a hand on their shoulder and seeing a tall man with a beard and glasses standing at the top of the stairs. This is a good description of former caretaker, George Parris. According to his wife, he loved the old lighthouse so much that she believes he is still here watching over it.

The Polk County Poor Farm.

The Polk County Poor Farm in Amery was in operation from 1874 into the 1950s. Local legend says that during that time, a young boy witnessed thieves stealing cattle from the farm. The thieves stabbed the boy to death, and he has been haunting the area ever since.

When the poor farm closed, it was sold and became private property. Professional wrestler George “Scrap Iron” Gadaski is said to have owned it at one point.

While renovations were being done on the house some time later, workers saw a young boy watching them from one of the windows of the home. No children lived there or were present at the time.

The nearby poor farm cemetery, known today as the Amery Prairie Home Cemetery, is full of unmarked graves which have been accidentally exhumed by farming activities in the field it borders from time to time. The cemetery has recently begun being used for green burials.

Victorian Faire👗

A Victorian Faire, like the one mentioned, is a public event that recreates the atmosphere of the Victorian era, often featuring period costumes, entertainment, crafts, and food. These fairs can be a way to celebrate history, raise money for charities, or simply provide a fun, engaging experience for the community.

Key elements of a Victorian Faire:

  • Historical Immersion: Fairs aim to transport visitors to the Victorian era through decorations, costumes, and activities.
  • Entertainment: Live music, theatrical performances, and interactive games are common.
  • Crafts and Vendors: Many fairs feature artisans selling handmade goods, often inspired by Victorian crafts.
  • Food and Drink: Traditional Victorian-era food and drink offerings add to the atmosphere.
  • Community Engagement: Fairs provide opportunities for local businesses and organizations to connect with the public.
  • Fundraising: Some fairs are organized to raise money for charities or community projects.

Examples of Victorian Faires:

Seul Choix Lighthouse🚊

The lighthouse, which is still an active Aid to Navigation, is open every day from Memorial Day to mid-October. It is owned by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and operated by the Gulliver Historical Society. The lighthouse complex consists of the beacon, keeper’s house, and several outbuildings, including the fog signal building. In addition to the lighthouse, there is a gift shop, picnic area, restroom, grills, and trail for visitors to enjoy.

About The Haunted Lighthouse: The Native American name is pronounced “Sis-Shwa,” or “Sel-Shwa” according to the French. It means “only choice.” It was so named because when the French found this place, there was nothing but this lone harbor of refuge in this remote part of Lake Michigan. The 78’ brick tower once housed a third-order Fresnel lens. It was long ago replaced with an aero beacon. When it was removed, it was taken to a government facility but was later reported missing. The two-story red brick keeper’s house that is attached to the lighthouse was designed to accommodate two families.

The light, which flashed white every six seconds, was visible up to seventeen nautical miles. The light was automated in 1973. In 1988, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is haunted by the spirit of former Keeper Joseph “Willy” Townshend, who was here from 1901 until his death in 1910. He was a heavy smoker, although his wife did not permit smoking in the house. Eventually, he died of lung cancer in the upstairs bedroom.

He died during the winter when the ground was too hard to dig up, so his burial had to be postponed until the weather improved. In the meantime, he was embalmed, which meant his blood was drained and replaced with salt to preserve the corpse. He was stored in the basement until the family could give him a proper burial. Every since that time, the unmistakable smell of a lit cigar has been prevalent on many occasions, even though smoking is not permitted and no one has been found with a cigar.

The house, including the kitchen table, has been decorated to depict what it would have looked like in earlier times. The ghost of James Townshend has been known to move the silverware, plates, and cups. Also, there is a mannequin resembling Joseph Townshend that is part of the re-creation. Staff sometimes finds the keeper’s cap turned around backwards on the mannequin and a cigar sticking out of his pocket despite the fact that a cigar was not there previously. Paranormal activity includes lights coming on inexplicably, bells ringing, an alarm going off, and images seen in the mirror of the bedroom where Captain Townshend died. The former keeper has been known to put in an appearance from time to time.

I have had the honot of visiting this lighthouse and is one of my favorites! I even had a whiff of cigar smoke when we went through it!

Take a trip to visit! Definitely recommend!
