The man who designed and built The House on the Rock was Wisconsin-native Alex Jordan, Jr. (1914-1989). Around the year 1940, Jordan discovered a 60-foot chimney of rock in rural Spring Green and decided to build a weekend retreat, using his knowledge of construction that he attained by working for his father.
In 1960, Alex Jordan opened his dream house built atop a chimney of rock to the public. Over the years, Alex expanded his vision beyond the House and collected and built on a massive scale. What began as a lofty retreat with an awe-inspiring view has become a spectacular attraction known as The House on the Rock.
The 2017 film American Fable features parts of the house, including the carousel and Infinity Room, in a dream sequence. The 1997 10,000 Maniacs music video for “More Than This” was filmed at the House. The 2019 Raconteurs music video for “Somedays (I Don’t Feel Like Trying)” was also filmed there.
The House on the Rock in Wisconsin is valued at over $4.8 million. This includes the carousel, which is worth over $4.8 million itself. The complex houses thousands of artifacts, antiques, and custom artwork, contributing to its overall high value. The House on the Rock is a privately held, family-run business, according to their website.
I have ventured to this amazing place and it is astounding! Well worth the traveling you may need to do!

I also believe in the ocean curing all bad moods. I believe in the waves wiping away worries. I believe in seashells bringing good luck. I believe in toes in the sand grounding my soul.
I wish that I lived nearby to the ocean but I don’t sadly. I have been there a few times and I treasure those memories of complete relaxation. The sound of the waves crashing onto the shore of the beach was so soothing and pushed all negative thoughts out of my mind.
Gazing out to the never ending ocean to see dolphins gliding in the blue green water was so inspiring and beautiful.
Feeling the water caress over my feet as I walked the edge of the beach helped me wash away my stress.
Watching the different colors of the sunset over the glistening ocean is like an artist’s palette.
The air surrounding me was crisp and salty but I love that scent and I miss all of it.
I was able to enjoy with my husband amd daughter which made it even more special.🩷

In television and cinema (e.g. The Blob, Happy Days, Grease and Diner), diners and soda fountains have come to symbolize the period of prosperity and optimism in America in the 1950s.
A poet could write volumes about diners, because they’re so beautiful. They’re brightly lit, with chrome and booths and Naugahyde and great waitresses. Now, it might not be so great in the health department, but I think diner food is really worth experiencing periodically.
I’m not sure why I’ve always found diner food so comforting. Maybe it’s the abundance of grease or the utter lack of pretense. Diner food is basic, stick-to-your-ribs fare- carbs, eggs, and meat, all cooked up in plenty of hot fat- served up in an environment dripping with kitsch and nostalgia. Where else are a jug of syrup and a bottomless cup of coffee de rigueur? The point of diner cuisine isn’t to astound or impress; it’s to fill you up cheaply with basic, down-home food.
The great American diner is a symbol of nostalgia, a place where memories are made and friendships are forged.
The ambiance at the retro diners makes me feel as though I stepped through the door into a time long past but get to experience it in the present.
I never wanted for diner food, whether it was from Bob’s Diner in Roxborough or the Trolley Car Diner. The food wasn’t anything special- eggs and toast, meat loaf and gravy, the omnipresent glass case of pies- but I always found the food comforting and satisfying, served as it was in those old-fashioned, prefabricated stainless steel trolley cars.
Diners often capture the essence of nostalgic American culture, highlighting the charm and simplicity of these establishments. They can range from humorous and relatable to reflective and sentimental, reflecting the diner’s role as a social hub and a place of comfort.
Diners are inexpensive restaurants, sometimes open 24/7, that serve homestyle breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many diners have a charming throwback 1950s feel, as though they’re lost in time. They’re the kind of place where friendly waitstaff pours bottomless coffee and flip sizzling burgers on a large griddle.
There’s a safety in thinking in a diner. You can have your coffee or your milkshake, and you can go off into strange dark areas, and always come back to the safety of the diner.
I’m too tired to cook, and I reckon you are, too. Let’s grab some grub at the diner on the way home.

It is known for being featured on the History Channel show “American Pickers”. The store, along with Thibault’s Poultry, and other buildings, sits on five acres. It was originally opened in 1962 by Grace & Edward Thibault and reopened in 2019 after being closed since 1999.
They have a bot of this and a bit of that! It is a very cute shop and fun to find some goodies!
