The Amityville Horror house in Wisconsin is known locally as Oakwood Manor. This Queen Anne Victorian home built in 1880 on the shore of Silver Lake in Salem, Wisconsin was the filming location of the 2005 Amityville Horror remake starring Ryan Reynolds.
The house was used for both interior and exterior shots. The production crew built a façade onto the house to give it the sinister, eye-like Amityville windows of the house where the actual events took place. They also constructed the boathouse seen in the movie.
Strange Occurrences
- Production was disrupted one day when the body of a missing fisherman floated to the surface of the lake.
- Ryan Reynolds stated that during filming process, the cast and crew reported waking up inexplicably at 3:15am
- During the production, cast and crew often felt an “otherworldly presence,” cold spots, and would experience sudden chills.
Screen-used items left behind from the production, such as a bed used by Reynolds, the kitchen table, curtains, and windows, were sold at an estate sale in 2017.
The Amityville Horror movie, especially the 2005 remake, was filmed in Salem, Wisconsin. The house used for the exterior shots of the Amityville house is located at 27618 Silver Lake Road. It’s a real house that was temporarily modified to include the iconic “eye” windows.
